Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) Rifle Mk III* .303 inch rifle, 1916
An example of the standard rifle of the British Army in 1939, many thousands of which were captured by the German Army in France during 1940. This particular weapon was issued to a second rank German unit in 1944 and captured by Sergeant S Scott of No 2 Army Commando in the fighting after D-Day. It has the enigmatic name 'ZENA' carved on the butt.
