'Souvenir of the Great War', 1917 (c)
Embroidered postcard, textile and paper, made in France, 1917 (c).
The postcard was sent by Private Philip J L Poole, Army Service Corps, to his mother, 1917 (c).
On the front of the card, the inscription, 'Souvenir of the Great War', intertwined with flowers. The initial letters of the words 'Great' and 'War' are decorated with the flags of the Allies. Insert printed in blue with the inscription, 'Remembrance', 'Wishes are nothing; 'tis the heart/ That in the few lines dwells/ And says to those from us apart/ More than this greeting tells'. Inscribed in pencil, 'To my dear Mother/from your loving son'.
