Pattern 1845 Infantry Officer's sword, Cape Mounted Riflemen, 1869 (c)
Manufactured by Maynard, Harris and Grice, London, 1869 (c).
The Pattern 1845 sword abandoned the pipe back blade of its predecessor, the Pattern 1827 sword, in favour of the fuller 'Wilkinson' style blade. The brass hilt remained basically the same. Although this sword was an elegant design, many officers considered it to be a rather average fighting sword due to the hilt's lack of strength.
