'The Dorsets at Almond's Nek', South Africa, Boer War, 1900
Lantern slide from the series, 'The Boer War of 1900'.
A typically Victorian depiction of the 2nd Battalion The Dorset Regiment leading the assault on Boer positions at Alleman's, or Almond's, Nek on 11 June 1900. Unlike the disastrous attack on Spion Kop earlier in the year, this action, involving artillery and infantry working together, was successful. The Boers were driven from their positions, and the route into Transvaal was opened up to Sir Redvers Buller's forces.
