Bedford MWD 15 cwt 4x2 CL truck, 1940 (c)
Army registration: 98 YP 54.
The Bedford common light truck was powered by a Bedford 3.5 litre six cylinder petrol engine with a four speed gear box. Introduced in 1939, there were six variants identified by MW codes:- MWD standing for General Service.
This particular Bedford truck was manufactured under contract number T8957 which was first issued in August 1940. When new this vehicle cost £268 18 s 6d. It is mounted with a two pounder anti-tank gun 'en-portee' to provide a more mobile defence against German tanks in the desert. In July 1961 it went to 72 Independent Company, Women's Royal Army Corps (Territorial Army).
