The Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI) ran clubs, bars, shops, launderettes, restaurants and cafés that sold and issued goods to servicemen and their families. By April 1944 the NAAFI ran 7,000 canteens and had 96,000 personnel, many of whom were from the Royal Army Service Corps.
