Mules taking jerricans of water to forward troops in the Chaouach area, April 1943
Photograph, World War Two, North Africa (1940-1943), 1943.
The positions of the 2nd Battalion, The Lancashire Fusiliers, like the rest of 11th Infantry Brigade, were located in the Tunisian mountains so the use of mules, rather than Bren carriers, to deliver supplies, was ideal. The town of Chaouach can be seen in the background.
From a collection of British official war photographs relating to the 78th Division.
