This was used to mark supply route Emerald, the main supply route in the Multinational Division Southwest (MND-SW) area of Bosnia.
MND SW was one of three multinational divisions deployed to support the Stabilisation Force, or SFOR, mission within Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Stabilisation Force was a multinational peace keeping force, led by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1996-2004. MND SW was under the control of a British division headquarters and based in Banja Luka in the north.
The British code name for their activities in IFOR was Operation RESOLUTE and SFOR was Operation LODESTAR (to June 1998) and Operation PALATINE (from June 1998).
