General Service Medal 1918-62 with clasp, 'Palestine 1945-48', awarded to Captain Alan Mitchell, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
Circular silver medal with, on the obverse, a bust of King George VI, with the inscription, 'Georgivs VI D: G:BR: Omn: Rex et Indiae Imp.'. On the reverse, designed by Edward Carter Preston, Winged Victory placing a wreath on the wings and sword, symbols of the Royal Air Force and The Army; suspended on a purple and green corded silk ribbon, with the silver clasp, 'Palestine 1945-48'.
From a medal group awarded to Captain Alan Alexander Drew Mitchell (1916-1959). Mitchell served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders during World War Two (1939-45). He also served with the King's African Rifles and the French Foreign Legion.
