Button worn by Lance Corporal Val Lander and converted into a brooch by his family, 1915 (c)

Lander enlisted in 1/13th (County of London) Princess Louise's Kensington Battalion, The London Regiment, in August 1914. He was killed in action at the Battle of Aubers Ridge on 9 May 1915. On receiving his effects, his family made this button into a brooch as a memento of their lost son.
