Photograph, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1917.

During World War One the existing three battalions of the Coldstream Guards were reinforced with the creation of the 4th (Pioneer) Battalion and the 5th Reserve Battalion. Both were disbanded after the war. The Coldstream Guards did not form any battalions of the New Armies. These men were pictured during the Battle of Poelcappelle sitting outside a German concrete block house on the outskirts of Houlthulst Forest.
