Sweetheart brooch, 17th Dogra Regiment, 1939 (c)
Silver brooch, unmarked, in the form of the unit number, '17', surmounted by a crown, above a scroll with the unit title, 'Dogra Regiment' .
The 17th Dogra Regiment was recruited entirely of Dogra Rajputs, high caste Hindus from the foothills of the Himalayas between the Jhelum and Sutlej rivers in the Punjab. Soldiers from the 17th Dogras went on to fight in Malaya (1941-1942) and Burma (1943-1945) during the Second World War.
