Royal Military College Muster Roll, 1885

This colour lithograph by G. Hicks, who served with the 3rd Battalion The Grenadier Guards, lists the names of all the teaching and support staff as well as the cadets who attended the Royal Military College, Sandhurst in 1885.

The teaching at Sandhurst focused on military subjects at this time, primarily Fortification, Military Topography and Tactics. These subjects made use of historical case studies to illustrate and teach basic principles. This technique is still used at Sandhurst today, although the case studies used are usually more contemporary.
