Prisoners of war being employed as labourers by the Japanese, 1942-1945 (c)
Photograph, 1942-1945 (c).
Over 140,000 Allied troops were taken prisoner by the Japanese during the World War Two. These prisoners were often treated with great brutality and many were put to work in the most appalling conditions. It is estimated that around a quarter of them died in captivity, the victims of malnutrition, disease, and violence.
From a collection of 20 photographs, World War Two, Far East (1941-1945).
