Pocket diary belonging to Second Lieutenant James Lindsay Sutherland, 23rd Battalion The Middlesex Regiment, 30 December 1916 to 30 July 1917

The last line of James's final diary entry, on the day before he died, reads 'Cheerio everyone and don't worry. The Diehards are ok.' He was killed in action at Pilckem Ridge on 31 July 1917, the opening day of the Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele).
