British War Medal 1914-20 and Allied Victory Medal awarded to 2nd Lieutenant Cyril G Edwards
These campaign medals were awarded to soldiers who had taken part in World War One (1914-1918). Cyril Edwards served with the 2/7th Battalion Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment). In 1917 he stood on a grenade that blew his foot off to save another soldier's life. He became the first officer to survive a blood transfusion at a frontline hospital.
