Battle dress trousers worn by Captain Alfred Rowe, 1944 (c)
These trousers were worn by Captain Alfred Rowe of the Royal Corps of Signals and Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own) during the Second World War (1939-1945). Rowe served as a Beachmaster during Operation OVERLORD, the Normandy Invasion, in 1944. His job was to keep vehicles, troops and supplies moving in the landing zone.
Rowe was first commissioned in June 1940 into the Royal Corps of Signals. He became a Quartermaster in The Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own) in 1945 and retired in 1948.
Battle dress is a type of military uniform worn by the British Army from the 1930s to the 1960s.
