Cap comforter, knitted wool, 1950 (c)
Cap comforters, which could also be worn as a scarf, provided some warmth under the steel helmet. This example was issued to Lieutenant (later Colonel) Leslie Sharpe of 1st Battalion, The Middlesex Regiment, during the Korean winter 1950-1951. In order to show willingness to assist the American forces, 27th Commonwealth Infantry Brigade was rushed from Hong Kong to Korea in September 1950 without proper winter clothing. As a result, they were reliant on American issue clothing.
