The Woods Cup, 1941 (c)
An electroplated silver cup awarded to members of No 3 Platoon E Company 28th London Home Guard, Wandsworth, London. The Home Guard, initially named the Local Defence Volunteers, was formed in 1940, during World War Two (1939-1945).
There was disagreement, particularly between Government and Home Guard commanders as to the role of the force in the face of an expected invasion. The inscription on this prize cup lists the recipients and reflects the type of activities the Home Guard undertook during World War Two, including drill and marching, sentry posting and ceremonial guard mounting.
