Pattern 1821 Light Cavalry Officer's sword, 1914 (c)
This sword, possibly made by Hawkes and Co. of London, belonged to Lieutenant Frank Alexander De Pass of the 34th Prince Albert Victor's Own Poona Horse who won a posthumous Victoria Cross for his actions at Festubert in France during World War One (1914-1918). The sword had been presented to de Pass by Lieutenant-General Sir Percy Lake, Chief of the General Staff in India, following his appointment in 1913 as Lake's orderly officer.
