The camp of the 2nd Infantry Brigade at Spalvi, Waziristan, 1937

Large numbers of troops were stationed in the rugged and remote region of Waziristan on British India's north-west frontier with Afghanistan, in order to police the rebellious mountain tribes and maintain lines of communication. In the foreground are the lines of the 5th (Bombay) Mountain Battery.
