Cabasset, late 16th century

A maker's mark is visible on the rim and there is evidence of a repair inside. This type of helmet was used during the Spanish Armada of 1588 and was still in use in England and other parts of North West Europe until about 1620. It was a precursor to the later pikeman's pot helmet.
