Red coat with buff facings and gold lace, made for a Pageant in 1895 (c)
This coat is styled to 1790 (c), reflecting the heavy influence of civilian fashion on uniform during the eighteenth century, as can be seen from the large cuffs which reach almost to the elbow.
The coat has eighteen regimental buttons for the Buffs (East Kent Regiment) on the front, sewn onto pointed gold lace loops on buff facings. The sleeves are done in the same way and have a hanging lace cuff.
Wearing military styled costumes or adapted versions of original uniform has always been a popular practice for pageants, parties and fancy dress.
