The Avro 504 aircraft was manufactured by the Avro Aircraft Company before, during and after the First World War. Quickly obsolete as a fighter aircraft the Avro became a standard trainer for Royal Flying Corps pilots with over 8,000 produced by the end of the war. The Avro also served in home defence squadron during the war and remained a trainer for the Royal Air Force into the 1920s.
From an album relating to Lieutenant William Charles Carter who served in the London Regiment (Artist's Rifles) from 1913 and 13 Squadron Royal Flying Corps 1917-1918.
