Travelling inkwell, 1815 (c)
Made from gilt brass, pewter and glass. Patented Perryian Filter Inkstand manufactured by James Perry and Company, London.
This inkwell was used by Captain (later Lieutenant-Colonel) William Tyrwhitt Drake, Royal Regiment of Horse Guards, during his active service in the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815). Drake fought at Waterloo in 1815 with Major-General Edward Somerset's Household Cavalry Brigade and took part in the attack on the French infantry which were advancing towards the British centre at La Haye Saint.
