Gold medal commemorating the Coronation of King George IV, 1821

Gold, circular medal, designed by Bagnall and Johnston, 1821, with, on the obverse, the head of George IV, laureate, with the legend, 'Georgius IIII D.G. Britanniarum Rex F.D.'; on the reverse, the king seated (left), being crowned by a winged figure standing behind him, facing three female figures wearing helmets, the leading one holding a trident (representing England, Scotland and Ireland), pointing to flames on an altar; to the right, wheat, a caduceus and and inverted spear; with the legend: 'Proprio Jam Jure Animo Paterno'; in an exergue: 'Inauguratas Die Julii XIX Anno MDCCCXXI.'.

King George IV (1762-1830) was crowned in Westminster Abbey in London on 19 July 1821. The KIng's estranged wife, Caroline of Brunswick, was excluded from the ceremony.
