Formation badge, 5th (Kresowa) Infantry Division, Polish Army, 1942-1945
Shield-shaped cloth badge with bison emblem.
This division was raised in Iraq during World War Two (1939-1945) and trained in Palestine. It landed in Italy in February 1944 and formed part of the 8th Army during the Italian Campaign. The bison was chosen because they lived in reservations in the Bialowieza Forest on the Polish Eastern Border.
From the collection of the former Buffs Regimental Museum.
