Pocket diary, 1914, altered in the first entry to 1915, and covering the period 1-25 January 1915
The diary of Rifleman William Eve of 1/16th (County of London) Battalion (Queen's Westminster Rifles), The London Regiment, gives us an insight into the daily life of soldiers during the first winter of the war. Eve's unit was in the line near Armentieres with the 18th Brigade of 6th Division and much of his diary is taken up with the constant struggle with the elements, the ever-present danger of sniping and the regular stand to alarms.
From a collection of papers relating to William Francis Eve (1894-1981), 1/16th Bn The London Regiment (Queen's Westminster Rifles) 1914-1915, and 6th Bn The London Regiment, 1915-1920.
