Empress of India Medal awarded to Sergeant Major J Pepper, 3rd (The East Kent) Regiment of Foot (The Buffs), 1877
This medal was presented to Pepper by Major J T R Prestige TD and commemorated the assumption of the title 'Empress of India' by Queen Victoria on 1 January 1877. Medals were awarded to Indian aristocrats, British officials of the Raj and to a selected soldier of each British and Indian regiment in India.
