Diary for 1916 kept by Sergeant James Littler, 12th Battalion The King's Royal Rifle Corps
Littler joined up on 3 September 1914. Part of 60th Brigade of the 20th (Light) Division, his battalion trained at Bisley, Blackdown and Larkhill before landing at Boulogne on 22 July 1915. In July 1916 the battalion transferred to the Somme front where it fought at Delville Wood, Guillemont, Flers-Courcelette, Morval and Le Transloy. This diary relates many of his personal experiences from those battles.
One of five diaries for the years 1914-1918 kept by RQMS James Edward Littler, 1895-1961. The diaries deal with his service on the Western Front until he transferred to the Royal Air Force in April 1918.
