'Skeels wounded at the Action of Tellivera [sic], 28th July 1809'
Watercolour, artist unknown, possibly by a soldier of 40th (2nd Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot, 1809 (c).
This watercolour depicts Private Thomas Skeels, 40th (2nd Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot, lying wounded before Talavera, passing his wallet to a drummer boy of his regiment. Skeels was a member of a Grenadier Company and received the Military General Service Medal with bars for Rolica, Vimiero and Talavera.
