Distinguished Conduct Medal, Corporal (later Captain) Henry Thomas Brady, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), 1901

Circular, silver medal with, on the obverse, a trophy of arms, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. On the reverse, the inscription, 'For Distinguished Conduct in the Field'. Named to 'Serjt H.J Brady. E.Kent Regt' (in error). The dark crimson ribbon has a central navy blue vertical stripe.

The Distinguished Conduct Medal was established in 1854 and could only be awarded to warrant officers, non-commissioned officers and other ranks. It was second only in ranking to the Victoria Cross. The award was discontinued in 1993 and replaced by the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross.

Corporal (later Captain) H T Brady (4902) was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his actions while serving in the 2nd Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) in South Africa, during the Boer War (1899-1902). Brady was wounded at Bakenlaagte on 30 October 1901 and invalided home on 21 December 1901.
