Bogged down tank at Beaumont Hamel, November 1916
Photograph, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1916.
This tank was abandoned during the Battle of the Ancre (13-18 November 1916). Several others became stuck in the glutinous November Somme mud or were knocked out by German shell fire.
From a series of photographs taken by Lieutenant Patrick Robert Koekkoek, Special Brigade, the Royal Engineers.
