On mobilisation in August 1914 the 1/1st Shropshire Yeomanry were part of the Welsh Border Mounted Brigade of 1st Mounted Division. In 1915 they were dismounted and sent to Egypt and Palestine as part of the 4th Dismounted Brigade. In 1917 they were amalgamated with the 1/1st Cheshire Yeomanry to form the 10th Battalion (S), The King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

Relating to Corporal Joseph Egerton's service in Egypt and Palestine, 1916-1918.
