Turkish prisoners of war being escorted by French Algerian soldiers, 1917

These men were probably captured at the Battle of Rafa on 9 January 1917. This engagement saw the Allies drive the Ottomans out of Sinai.

From a collection of photographs taken by Corporal Joseph Egerton, Shropshire Yeomanry in Sinai and Palestine.
