Firing a 4.5 inch gun near Tarhuna during the Eighth Army's advance on Tripoli, February 1943

The 4.5 inch gun was a long range medium artillery piece primarily designed for counter-bombardment. It entered British Army service in 1940 and was used throughout the War, having a maximum range of 20,500 yards (18 km).
