The Rt Reverend Hugh Rowlands Gough, Chaplain to 1st Battalion, The London Rifle Brigade, ministering to the soldiers in the desert, 1942

As well as taking religious services, British Army chaplains provided for the spiritual and moral well being of soldiers. They also offered pastoral support to men who were facing highly stressful situations on a daily basis. Reverend Gough was wounded in the legs during the Battle of El Alamein in October 1942.
