Queen's South Africa Medal 1899-1902
This medal, with clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, and South Africa 1902, was awarded to Private William Goodyear, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment), who served as a mounted infantryman during the Boer War (1899-1902). He was discharged to the Reserve in 1908 and rejoined the Middlesex Regiment in 1914. Goodyear died of rheumatic fever on the Western Front on 26 January 1915, aged 32, and he is commemorated at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
