Field telephone, No 100, Mark 234, 1917

At the beginning of World War One (1914-1918) civilian telephones were pressed into front line services. However, they were not designed to operate in damp, muddy conditions so the Army was issued with specially designed telephone sets better suited to the conditions on the Western Front.
