A barrack room at the School of Infantry, Warminster, 1951 (c)
Pen, ink and watercolour drawing by Private Albany Wiseman, The Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment, 1951 (c).
Painted during the artist's National Service, this work depicts a soldier sitting on a barrack room bed polishing his boots, whilst another soldier polishes the floor with a 'bumper'. This was a heavy brush used to clean the surface thoroughly. Sometimes a man stood on the bumper and was pulled along by several others to increase the cleaning pressure.
