Native Malay parang, 1950 (c)

Servicemen in Malaya during the Emergency (1948-1957) used large knives to clear jungle paths. Although issued with machetes, most found a more effective knife to be the locally made parang or klewang. This particular knife, made by a local Iban, has had the wooden scabbard painted jungle green to match a man's kit.
