British troops on parade at a Mediterranean station, possibly Corfu, 1830 (c)
Oil on canvas, artist unknown, 1830 (c).
Officers of different regiments confer in the foreground, while infantry are drawn up on parade beyond. Corfu was captured from the French by a British fleet in 1809. Following the Treaty of Paris (1815) it became part of the British protectorate of the Ionian Islands, remaining so until 1864 when it was unified with Greece.
