Seated soldier, 1917

Pencil drawing signed and dated lower right, 'G.B. 1917', by Private George Barrow, 6th Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, 1917.

A soldier sits reading or writing with a box wedged between his knees.

The 6th (Service) Battalion landed in France at Boulogne in July 1915 with the 20th (Light) Division. The artist was killed while serving with the 6th Battalion near Poperinge on 31 August 1917. He is buried at Mendinghem Military Cemetery.
