'20th Regiment of foot', 1742 (c)
Engraving from, 'A Representation of the Cloathing of His Majesty's Houshold and of all the Forces upon the Establishments of Great Britain 1742', a volume of 104 coloured engravings, published 1742 (c).
This infantry unit was raised in 1688 and subsequently served in many British Army campaigns during its long history. This uniform study depicts a soldier of the regiment at the time of the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-1748) in which it fought at the major battles of Dettingen (1742) and Fontenoy (1745).
In 1968, the regiment was amalgamated with three other fusilier regiments to form The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
