'39th Regiment of foot', 1742

Engraving from, 'A Representation of the Cloathing of His Majesty's Houshold and of all the Forces upon the Establishments of Great Britain 1742', a volume of 104 coloured engravings, published 1742 (c).

This infantry regiment was raised in 1689. It continued in British Army service until the 1881 reforms, when it was amalgamated with the 54th (West Norfolk) Regiment of Foot to form The Dorsetshire Regiment.
