A Captain from 'A' Squadron Queen's Royal Lancers serving on attachment with The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment Battle Group patrols Jadeed al-Muallamin, July 2004

The village of Jadeed al-Muallamin was situated on the banks of the Tigris River north of Al Amarah. The officer is on 'Soft Patrol' (soft hat and on foot) but carries an SA80 rifle with underslung grenade launcher and his helmet is close to hand.

Part of the officer's job was to liaise with local civil, village and tribal leaders in an attempt to set up meetings with the Operational Support Group responsible for generating local employment and projects which benefit the communities.
