A major of a highland regiment (possibly Highland Light Infantry) and a Scottish soldier, with infantrymen in service dress caps and greatcoats, seated around a camp fire at night, Western Front, World War One (1914-1918).

A painting of this title was exhibited at the Royal Academy by the artist in 1915, No 490: however this painting bears no Academy label which might confirm this supposition.
