Letter from Lance-Corporal Albert Haughton, 23rd Battalion, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment), to his mother, 27 August 1916

The letter is mostly personal but he says, 'Mother their [sic] is no need for you to worry about me if you don't here [sic] so often by letter but I will send a Field Card as soon as possible'. Haughton was one of 32 soldiers lost in the battalion's first very costly action at Flers-Courcellette on the Somme, on 15 September 1916. His body was never found and he is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

From a collection of papers and a photograph relating to F.2364 L/Cpl Albert H Haughton, 23rd Battalion, Duke of Cambridge's Own (Middlesex Regiment), 1915-1916.
