Tea cup and saucer decorated with a bust portrait of General Charles Gordon, 1885 (c)
Hard paste porcelain of Oriental manufacture. Hand painted with overglaze enamels, possibly Chinese export ware.
Gordon is depicted in uniform as the Governor General of the Sudan. The cup is typical of the late-Victorian fashion for consumer goods bearing patriotic and imperialist heroes or other motifs.
