Silver medal commemorating the victories of the Duke of Wellington in Spain, 1813-1814
Made by Franz Stuckhart, this medal celebrates Wellington's victories during the latter part of the Peninsular War (1808-1814). Advancing into Spain in May 1813, Wellington destroyed Joseph Bonaparte's army at Vitoria, personally leading one of the columns against the French centre. The victory brought him a field marshal's baton and was followed by the capture of San Sebastian and Wellington's advance into France itself, fighting battles at the Pyrenees, Bidassoa, Nivelle, the Nive, Orthez and finally Toulouse.
